Think I've finally killed my Q6600; PC won't even post with it in! Crying or Very sad

Swapped in another processor last night and back up and running now.

Running with a E1200 @ 1.6Ghz, oh-yeah!

Will try and push it tonight to see how far I can get; not holding my breath!

Pitiful frame rates on stock Crying or Very sad

Managed to get to 3.2Ghz, 100% overclock on the standby chip; will see how it performs................

Yet you continue to overclock....LOL

Hopefully you won't push the next one as far? When I saw your first post back when you overclocked the Quad, I was considering starting a poll to see who would guess the date it would fry. I feel for ya, but unless you have the money to waste on new parts every 6 months, then maybe take it easy on the overclocking with the next one. Especially when cranking the voltage sky high...... Oh well, just my opinion.......

Lol Bud

I would like to think Ankara may care about the cpu blowing and the over-clocking.. - on the other hand I think he likes the challenge of sorting something new out.

My bet for next "fry" = 10th August 09

Cheers for the support guys! Rolling Eyes lol

Think it may be a PSU problem?

Was getting the same problem with the new chip last night; press the power switch - lights come on and fans spin for a second then it cuts out.

If I remove the 4/8 pin additional MB power connector everything powers on, but of course it wont POST.

PSU's only about 8 months old, but am starting to think this maybe the problem?

Will try swaping in a supply from another PC and see if this cures the problem....

PS - I've always been fond of deep fried chips..............

Cheers Metal - it's a 1000W Corsair, so it wasn't cheap.....

Got a 750W supply to swap in tonight to see if that confirms its the original PSU thats buggered

Hope if hasn't taken the board with it........................ Sad

Fingers crossed, it's not the CPU's then; only problem is the Corsair is so large it went into the case first followed by everything else - don't know if I can face a full rebuild again so soon Crying or Very sad

ok; still not working............... Confused

Spare PSU gets the same reaction when pluged into the mobo

q6600 & E1200 both work in spare mobo, both RAM sticks work in spare board too

Still the same when the graphics card is unplugged; doesn't get past 'CPU INI' on lcd poster

So I guess it's the motherboard; either its goosed, or I have a short somewhere, or a leak?

Suppose the next step is to unplumb the graphics card and test it in the spare mobo just to rule that out as the cause Sad

After that, take the mobo out of the case to test incase it has developed a short?

Any other suggestions would be good - don't fancy draining down everything................ Evil or Very Mad

don't give me ideas knodders; a gas chilled cpu cooler? it might just work.............

I'd have to get the madras:hours gaming ratio right for it to work - leave it with me........

In the meantime; new P5Q-E in case and everything else assembled.

Popping out for some deionized water in a bit, so could be playing this aft Very Happy
