That is one of the cards I was looking into. The only problem is that my board isn't PCI Express 2.0, so I am unsure whether my board will even accept that card. Genocide is having the problem I speak of and I don't want to run into that problem.

The program I use is called Everest Ultimate which will cost you, but there is also a free version as well. It is called Everest Free Edition. I am sure you could find it somewhere to download. I believe Major Geeks has it on their site. It is a pretty neat utility to tell you some technical specs about your computer.

Here is a link to the one on Major Geeks.... Everest Free Edition

Ok so I think I may have decided what I may do instead of just a graphics card. I have gone over it many times and I believe that I can't find a card to run on this old MOBO that I like. Now this is going to hit the bank book pretty hard considering I have a pretty nice setup as it is, but I think I will build myself a new computer. Here are my choices.

MSI K9A2 Platinum AM2+/AM2 MOBO = $150
GeForce 8800GTX 768MB = $330
HIPER HPU-5K880 880W PSU = $190
AMD Phenom 9850 2.5GHz = $235
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 2 x 2GB = $130

Grand Total using existing HDD's
and other existing parts = $1,035

Is it worth the money? I plan on waiting a couple of months for the prices to fall though. Any suggestions are welcome, just keep it under $1200. As at that point I might just say use it for a Hotel room and plane ticket to the UK for the TBK meet.

that may not be necessary ?

from this forum it shows that Pablo is running a 8800GT on a PCIE 1.0a slot !

more investigation needed ! Smile

also this is what XFX say about PCIE 1.0a compatibility
Quote:
Hi, thanks for your message, the cards are backward compatible for all boards and chipsets except some VIA based boards. this is unfortunate obviously but as with all products, especially in PC technology area there will be some components which are not compatible. I will however forward your post to our technical team so they are made aware of your situation. kind regards.

your mobo has a nforce4 chipset and although it has a PCIE 1.0a, there is a small chance of compatibility !!! hope so could save £££'s or $$$'s in your case....lol

Yea I was thinking that...I may just stick with what I have for now. I will only be able to use the new stuff for a couple of months anyway. Once I leave for boot camp, there won't be any computer usage for quite a while.
