I decided this weekend to try once again to install latest display drivers for my pc- and, like before, the first attempt left my pc stuck halfway through driver install, just at the point where my monitor is blank and says 'Input not supported'.
However, after attempting to install drivers from the original disk that came with my 5450, something changed. It actually went all the way through the install, and when it ended I was almost celebrating before I saw the little yellow symbol saying there had been errors. I took a look at the log file, which said that all of the installations had been a success- except the display driver. So, I go back to AMD's website, download 11.2 and begin install- and again, it does go through entire install to give me an error message that only the display driver has failed. Anyone have any ideas? Considering I have used the regular uninstaller (the one part of the installer) to get rid of whatever drivers I had before trying to load new ones, and also tried to use drivers from original ASUS disk. What can I do?

Ever since I first had problems I've also had crashes from:
Catalyst Control Centre: Monitoring Application (at system startup)
Catalyst Control Centre Command Line Interface (upon opening CCC from a right click on desktop)
Windows Explorer (from opening CCC from right click on desktop)

CCC doesn't seem to start at all on system startup either.

From this I'm guessing something is seriously wrong, but I haven't got the experience to find out what. Again, I need your expertise for this.

Have you been uninstalling CCC every time and installing afresh with the full suite and new drivers? That's what I tend to do and don't have any probs.

Failing that; a fresh OS install?!

I haven't uninstalled EVERY time, but I don't see why uninstalling then reinstalling should now have a problem when it never used to. As for complete OS refresh- I see why you mentioned it, but somehow I think it's a bit drastic. Another thing though- if I do follow Rigger's advice and buy a 5770, would it be affected by current driver problems?

PEBKAC. You install those drivers every week, of course something is bound to get corrupted.

Well, I'm happy to say myself and Techy have finally got the drivers fixed. I won't be updating drivers again unles something major happens, because these ATI/AMD drivers seem... fragile? Well thanks for the help everyone.
